Horry County to seek $1.19 million from South Carolina Opioid Recovery Fund to continue treatment, diversion programs

Horry County staff asked the committee on Oct. 8 to authorize an application to the South Carolina Opioid Recovery Fund to continue three programs started in 2023 and to accept the grant if awarded.
"The grant will fund 2 harm reduction specialists for Horry County Fire Rescue," Beth Tranoff told the committee, and she outlined continuing support for jail diversion and reentry positions and two staff for treatment court. Tranoff said the total request was $1,193,513.80.
Tranoff detailed recent program outcomes, saying the county connected 561 adults to therapeutic counseling services and supported 266 drug-court participants; she also reported 392 overdoses reversed through the programs. After the presentation a committee member moved to submit the application and the body voiced approval.
The request, as presented, is for continuation funding; Tranoff said it would be the third successive year of support for the listed activities. The committee did not debate specific contract terms at the meeting and asked staff to proceed with the application process.
