Kelly Harden, who identified herself as the owner of the tree farm across from the East 39th Street parcel, told the planning commission she welcomes cleanup of the site but fears rezoning to M1 could enable uses that store hazardous chemicals next to her property. "My concern is what could end up there if we end up more, like, with co op who's got all kinds of hazardous chemicals stored across there," Harden said during public comment.
Planning staff (Melissa) responded that building and development permits must meet code and M1 district regulations. She said limited industrial uses with minimal environmental effect can be allowed but outdoor operations that could allow material to escape onto neighboring properties would not be accepted; specific uses would be evaluated at the permit stage, she said.
