USD 239 superintendent: County backs ‘Blue Store’ MOU; school board to decide April 13

Dr. Curtis Stevens, superintendent of USD 239, told the Ottawa County Board of County Commissioners during public forum that the school board will take up a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) regarding the Blue Store as an action item at its April 13 meeting and that the county is in agreement with the proposal. "the County Commission is in agreement with the MOU and the School Board wanted time to look at it," Stevens said. He added he will coordinate with the County Clerk and the Register of Deeds to confirm addresses listed in the MOU.
Stevens said the district is working on next year’s schedule and, if the MOU is approved, officials will mobilize an internship program that may not begin until the January term. He also raised the topic of a School Resource Officer (SRO), saying the district supports an SRO but that Twin Valley’s approval is not yet secured and that the SRO MOU involves three entities. "the first year, the SRO was paid for by the school and the second year, there was a grant," Stevens said, and he noted ongoing conversations with the Sheriff and city officials about cost and structure.
Next steps: USD 239 will act on the MOU at its April 13 meeting; Stevens said he will keep the County Commission updated as the district finalizes addresses and internship scheduling.
