Ambulance Association asks county to sell or gift lot next to sheriff's office; county counsel favors gifting

A representative of the Cherokee County Ambulance Association (identified in the minutes as Clugston) requested permission to either buy or receive as a gift a county-owned lot adjacent to the sheriff's office for construction of a new ambulance station. The Association asked whether the county was still open to selling or gifting the parcel and whether the organization had sufficient savings to build the new facility.
County Counselor Jake Conard told the board that "it would be easier for the County to gift the property instead of selling it." Commissioners asked about the Association's financial readiness and whether potential buyers of the current station would permit the Association to remain at the current location for up to 12 months while the new station is built. The board took no action during the Nov. 25 meeting.
