Cudahy Health Department awarded Milwaukee County 'Better Ways to Cope' grant

Health Officer Heather Puente announced that the Cudahy Health Department was awarded the Milwaukee County "Better Ways to Cope" grant to support prevention, harm reduction and recovery initiatives aimed at reducing opioid-related overdose deaths and preventing substance use disorder. "Health Officer Puente announced Cudahy Health Department was awarded the Better Ways to Cope grant from Milwaukee County." Puente presented the award as a funding source to expand outreach and connections to care.
Puente told the board the grant would fund a new Public Health Liaison/Community Health Worker position and help sustain portions of an existing Public Health Specialist and Office Assistant, enabling the department to expand outreach, education and referrals. She said referrals would include those received from Cudahy Fire and Cudahy Police. The board did not take formal action on allocation during the meeting; Puente said she will keep the board updated as implementation details and budgets are developed.
