Resident cites studies and urges Monroe to stop adding fluoride to tap water

Resident Deb Kredicker addressed the board during public comment, urging the City of Monroe to stop adding fluoride to the public water supply. Kredicker said she had reviewed “study after study” and cited a 2006 National Academy of Sciences review and a recent National Toxicology Program report she described as linking fluoride exposure in drinking water to neurodevelopmental effects in children.
Kredicker also raised concerns about infants' fluoride intake from formula mixed with fluoridated water, citing an Institute of Medicine intake level she said is roughly 10 micrograms per day and alleging that formula prepared with fluoridated water can supply substantially more. She argued that because fluoride supplements require a prescription, community fluoridation amounts to involuntary medication for residents.
