Planning commission approves future land use map amendment for Lot 2 in Kearney City

The Kearney City Planning Commission voted to approve a future land use (FLU) map amendment that redesignates Lot 2 of the Abood Addition from Urban Reserve and Commercial to all Commercial. The motion was made and seconded after a staff finding that the amendment is consistent with development trends along East 1st Street; the Chair announced the motion passed.
Craig Bennett, representing the property owner Marilyn Mulcomer, told the commission the parcel is approximately "6.93 acres" and described the lot as a flag configuration north of 1st Street and east of Central Avenue. "We would be asking to update the FLU from COM and UR to just making it all COM," Bennett said. Planning staff said the proposed change and a concurrent rezoning to C-3 are compatible with the surrounding zoning and the 2016 comprehensive plan and recommended approval.
