Cowley County will continue LMI study with fire districts to pursue CDBG funding

The Cowley County Commission voted unanimously April 21 to continue a low- to moderate-income (LMI) study with area fire districts to support applications for Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding.
Chris Cannon, chief of Fire District 3, told the commission that "not all fire districts in Cowley County are wanting to have a $3 million fire station built" and that he is not interested in consolidation, though he said he would participate in conversations if they occur. Commissioners noted that consolidating workers' compensation and property insurance across districts could produce savings.
Vice Chairman Alan Groom moved and Commissioner Wayne Wilt seconded the motion to continue the LMI study with area fire districts; the motion passed 3-0. The study is intended to establish eligibility levels and support possible CDBG applications to fund capital projects or other district needs.
