Staff said the request is intended to allow the owner to combine a small sliver with adjacent commercial property owned by the same person and recommended approval as a straightforward request.
Local resident Jimmy Whiting spoke in support of the rezoning and provided historical context: "In 1975, I purchased from Keystone Builders 4.19 acres... This 0.62 acres I have been using as commercial since I bought it." Whiting told commissioners he did not intend to make changes beyond formalizing the property’s zoning status. After public comment, the commission moved to approve the rezoning and voted by voice to adopt the staff recommendation.
The item will be presented to the Stephens County Board of Commissioners for final action on Dec. 9 under the county’s December schedule.
