FEMA reimbursements top $3.1 million; Liberty Tree planted at main library and DMV relocates

Karen Tyler, Secretary/Treasurer, told the Jury that FEMA and state closeouts on several road projects have resulted in $3,137,858.73 received so far. She also reported other closed projects (COVID operations, debris removal parish-wide, and emergency protective measures) totaling $3,474,053.65. Tyler noted she is still waiting on reimbursement for three large projects.
Tyler announced a Liberty Tree — a live oak in a three-gallon container — has been delivered and planted at the Winn Parish Main Branch Library as part of a nationwide 250-tree initiative referenced in House Resolution No. 351 introduced by Representative Michael Bayham; the trees were provided by the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry Commissioner Dr. Mike Strain, DVM. Tyler also said the Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles moved to a new location at 202 W. Court Street on June 1, 2026; she added the old DMV office will be used for the sheriff’s investigations unit, and Sheriff McAllister is bearing the cost of changes.
