Commissioners approve NextGen work order to enable ESInet interconnection and Text-to-911 for sheriff's office
Summary
At the recommendation of Sheriff Stanforth the board approved a NextGen Communications work order to install two edge routers for ESInet interconnection and enable Text-to-911; the system will connect to state ESLnet centers in Columbus and Cleveland and support up to 25 simultaneous encrypted calls.
Following a recommendation from Sheriff Stanforth, the Fayette County Board of Commissioners approved a work order on April 20, 2026 with NextGen Communications to interconnect the county with the State of Ohio Emergency Services IP Network (ESInet) and enable Text-to-911.
Scope includes implementation of two edge routers capable of encryption and supporting up to 25 simultaneous calls across two dedicated Mbps connections to the state ESLnet data centers in Columbus and Cleveland. The work order also includes provisioning for county receipt of Text-to-911 via the State of Ohio NG911 system. The agreement and related equipment support are on file with the sheriff’s office and the commissioners' office.
The motion was moved and approved by roll call. Commissioners recorded unanimous 'aye' votes for the work order.
