Jay Anderson told the board that staff has a contract to purchase a 2.24-acre parcel (Parcel Number 54000070) at Whitesville Road and Burkes Chapel Road for a planned new fire station serving the southern part of Troup County. Anderson asked permission to close on the property for $50,000 plus up to $1,500 in closing costs and said the purchase would be funded from SPLOST V.
Fire staff and commissioners discussed the site layout (entrance/exit off Birch Chapel Road), the plan to bid both 2-bay and 3-bay options to get pricing, and how the new station would improve ISO ratings and response coverage in unincorporated areas. Chair recommended increasing the closing-cost authorization to $2,000 to avoid delaying the closing over small additional fees; Anderson said staff will present final bids and total project cost after the procurement process.
