Judge Imre Palmer told the Troup County Board of Commissioners on July 21 that the superior court needs a county-funded calendar clerk based in the LaGrange courthouse to manage felony trial calendars and coordinate attorneys, the district attorney, the public defender and the sheriff’s office. "We're requesting that the county fund a person to work for the judges in Troup County," Palmer said, adding the role would also help track competency evaluations and post-trial motions.
Palmer said a dedicated calendar clerk would help move cases through the system faster and reduce jail costs by improving scheduling and coordination, particularly in multi-defendant prosecutions. County staff told commissioners the FY27 contingency includes $350,000 that could fund judicial needs; managers estimated a base salary of about $42,000 and a total cost with benefits near $71,000. Commissioners noted recent operational savings after transferring roughly 100 inmates to the Georgia Department of Corrections, which the county estimated saved about $141,000 in a recent month. The board agreed to consider the request further and take the item up at the evening session.
