Wyoming County finance committee endorses $2M grant application to acquire Camp Wyomoco

The Wyoming County Special Finance Committee voted 5-3 on April 14 to approve a resolution endorsing the county’s application to the New York State Department of Conservation Open Space Conservation Grant Program to acquire Camp Wyomoco.
Supervisor Leuer (Town of Middlebury) asked to bring supporters to the podium during the discussion; former Town of Warsaw Supervisor R. Ryan introduced her daughter, Kelsey Ryan Graten, and retired Warsaw Earth Science teacher Jim Carter, who spoke in favor of the application. Supervisor May said County Administrator S. Schrader met recently with the town board and that the town agreed to support moving forward. County Administrator S. Schrader explained the requested increase in project funding: “the increased amount of $2M would cover the purchase price of $1.75M, $100K for site remediation and clean up, two surveys and traditional closing costs.”
Letters of support attached to the resolution included submissions from the Wyoming County Industrial Development Agency, the Wyoming County Chamber and Tourism, multiple school districts (Attica Central, Letchworth Central, Pioneer Central, Warsaw Central) and county offices (Office for the Aging, Youth Bureau, Wyoming County Community Health System), among others. Supervisor Leuer instructed the board clerk to attach all such letters to the application record.
Supervisor Smith moved the resolution; the motion carried 5-3. The transcript lists the three no votes as Klein, Roche and Roberts; the five ayes were the remaining attending supervisors. The committee did not record a second on the motion in the minutes provided. The clerk announced the next Finance Committee meeting for May 5, 2026 at 9:00 AM.
