Ellis Public Library given June 2 deadline to accept county allocation as exclusion petition moves forward

At the May 6 meeting, the Ellis County Library Board said Ellis Public Library asked its attorney to review the county allocation and made no immediate decision. Board chair Kylie Honas told members that if Ellis accepts the county funds the Hays and Ellis libraries will need to meet with the county board to determine the true cost of services and clarify formulas now in flux.
Honas presented a timeline for a petition to exclude Ellis from CKLS and said the board will submit a letter to the State Library Board for its May 22 meeting; the Ellis County Library Board set a June 2 deadline for Ellis Public Library to respond, and Ellis has scheduled a June 1 work session to review the matter. Board member Michael Berges reminded members that Ellis is a city library and that primary funding should come from the city; he said the county board’s allocation policy is currently a placeholder to get funds into libraries while better contracts and formulas are developed.
