WDNR updates staffing, antlerless tag allocations and survey status to Iron County committee

Katy Broquard of the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources summarized WDNR involvement with the County Forest program and said the Mercer Team structure is explained to new members; she reported time standards hours at 2,190 (88%) with 267 hours remaining and noted a new forester in Mellen will start May 18, 2026.
Jenna Malinowski (WDNR) provided wildlife updates: Unit 117 will offer 2,100 antlerless tags with a harvest goal of 500; Unit 118 will offer 300 antlerless tags with a harvest goal of 90. She said grouse survey numbers were slightly down for 2026, woodcock and elk surveys are beginning soon, and there were no additional updates on wolves while they remain federally protected.
