Iron County reports 10.9% jump in stumpage; spring timber-sale bids set for June 10

Iron County Forestry Administrator Eric Peterson reported year-to-date stumpage receipts of $614,274.51 at the May 13 committee meeting, up from $553,934.35 at the same point in 2025 — a $60,340.16 increase, or about 10.9%.
Peterson outlined the upcoming spring timber sale: 17 sales covering 1,903 acres with an estimated 630 MBF of sawtimber and 32,050 cords of pulpwood, and an estimated minimum sale value of $691,469. He told the committee the bid opening is scheduled for June 10, 2026, at 9:00 a.m. He also reported that the county has roughly 290,000 carbon credits available on the market (noted as approximately a $5 million valuation) and that the next batch of credits is expected to be verified and ready in mid-2027.
