Planning/finance staff explained a proposed text amendment to chapter 50, section 50-47 that would permit the tax commissioner and the property-appraisal office to ensure businesses are paid up on real and personal property taxes before issuing or renewing business licenses.
Austin Burgess said the change would be applied during the business-license renewal process, with notifications sent in November, renewals due by Jan. 1 and late by Feb. 15; staff said the amendment would allow the county to hold or withhold renewal until tax issues are resolved. No members of the public spoke either for or against the amendment at the hearing.
A commissioner moved to adopt the text amendment and the board approved it by voice vote. Staff did not provide an implementation date beyond the usual renewal cycle described in the presentation.
