Police Jury approves election for Fire Protection District No. 3 renewal; adopts 2026 millage rates

The Winn Parish Police Jury voted on May 18 to authorize an election on Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2026 for Fire Protection District No. 3 to continue a special tax of 12.4 mills. Chief Dustin Parker told the Jury the department's rating from the Property Insurance Association of Louisiana improved from Class 6 to Class 5, which he said should lower residential and commercial premiums for property owners.
Separately, the Jury adopted Resolution #009 of 2026 setting the 2026 ad valorem millage rates: General Alimony 3.95 mills; Road #2 5.16 mills; Road #1 1.94 mills; Library 3.03 mills and 5.06 mills (two library levies listed); and Health Unit 3.24 mills. Both motions were recorded as carried (5 yeas, 0 nays, 1 absent, 1 abstained).
