Juvenile court seeks $80,000 CJCC grant to expand prevention programs

Ayesha Davis, speaking for Juvenile Court, asked the Board of Commissioners for permission to apply for the Criminal Justice Coordinating Council "Children in Need of Services" grant and said the court is seeking $80,000 to support evidence-based prevention and intervention services.
"We are seeking approval to apply for $80,000 in grant funding to support evidence based youth prevention and intervention services, including the strengthening families program, trauma focused cognitive behavioral therapy, and Botvin life skills training," Davis said. She told the board the programs are designed to reduce juvenile-justice risk factors, strengthen family functioning and provide alternatives to detention. Davis said the grant carries no local match requirement but operates on a reimbursement basis.
The County Manager said the board would take the request up at its evening meeting. If adopted, the funding would allow the court to continue services previously supported through the CJCC delinquency-prevention program.
The request appeared on the work session agenda under "special business" and will return to the board for a formal vote at the regular meeting.
