The City of Anamosa moved to approve a renewed School Resource Officer (SRO) agreement with the Anamosa Community School District on Feb. 24, subject to the school district's review and signature. The city attorney told the council the agreement was an attorney-reviewed AD20A agreement with minor changes and that the school would receive a copy before final signatures.
One council member said they were reluctant to approve the SRO position without clarity on long-term funding and questioned why 40% of the officer's suggested time would be allocated to the elementary school while the high school reportedly draws more calls. Police leadership (Chief Worley) said the percentages are a guideline recommended by the National Association of School Resource Officers focused on maximizing interaction with younger students and that operational details could be adjusted based on school needs. The council approved the agreement and indicated the school board's sign-off would be the next step.
