Ellis County’s environmental services director announced a tire amnesty day for residents, farmers and local government on Saturday, June 13, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., with specific handling rules and limits.
Justin Gregg said the county will accept up to 1,000 pounds of tires per individual for free on the day and that “anything over 1000 pounds will be charged at $100 a ton.” He asked drivers to remove rims (to avoid a higher $300/ton rate), to be prepared to unload their own tires unless county equipment is required, and to display an Ellis County tag on their vehicle so staff can verify residency.
Gregg said the event will be promoted on the county Facebook page and with flyers. Staff advised participants to keep any other materials separate so those materials can be weighed and handled separately. The county also confirmed secured‑load policies will remain in effect for the event.
The amnesty day is limited to Ellis County residents and local government; staff did not provide an estimate of expected participation but said the county will publicize the event.
