The Winthrop School Board approved the hiring of Kim Gurney as the district's special education director for the 2026–27 school year. Dr. Foley said Gurney was the unanimous choice of the hiring committee and brings 12 years of experience, including the past three years serving in Winthrop as the behavior interventionist.
Dr. Foley noted that Gurney will complete her master's degree at the University of Maine at Farmington this summer. Gurney addressed the board briefly: "I just want to say how excited I am and really honored to have this opportunity. I have loved working for the Winthrop Public School System for the past 3 years..." The board welcomed her and the motion to employ her was approved.
