Winthrop Public Schools moves toward modernized Internet-use policy and raises staff-gift limit

Megan White, director of teaching and learning, said the district's technology policy dated from 2012 and needed an overhaul: the new draft removes outdated definitions, shifts network-etiquette guidance into handbooks, clarifies that the principal is the final decision-maker on device access, adds laptop-specific rules including annual parental acknowledgment and possible cost responsibility for damage, and adds language that illegal uses are not the district’s responsibility. On GBI, the board moved the allowable nominal gift value from $50 to $100 to reflect current price levels.
