Socorro ISD used a recorded segment at the July 29 meeting to spotlight the Volunteer Sports Program and a splash-day event that celebrated volunteers and their families. The segment said the program honors coaches and volunteer teams for their commitment and that the district recognizes volunteers as an extension of the school community.
A speaker in the segment said, "Today is more of a recognition for coaches...we do a lot for the kids," and noted that the program has no tryouts, welcomes special-needs students and promotes parent engagement. The district said the Volunteer Sports Program helps transition younger participants to UIL sports at later grade levels and recognizes coaches for their work with students.
The segment was presented as part of SISD TV News coverage of district activities and outreach.
