"So what we're coming up with here is that we're gonna have mechanical beach raking basically as long as it follows FWC guidelines and the sea turtle monitoring that's currently being done at Lantana Public Beach," the presenter said. Staff noted recent sargassum accumulation over the previous days and reported three newly marked turtle nests on the north end of the beach, underlining the need to coordinate raking with nesting protections.
Council discussed contract frequency options and expressed support for staff to implement a prudent approach that balances recreational beach access with wildlife protections. The policy was adopted by unanimous vote, 5‑0.
