Winthrop School Board honors two longtime educators at meeting

The Winthrop School Board recognized two retirees during the opening portion of the meeting. Board members and colleagues praised Holly Stoneton for a varied teaching career spanning kindergarten, multi-age classrooms, ELL work, and service as an unofficial assistant principal at the grade school. Colleague Laurie/Lori Smale (introduced by the board) described Stoneton as "an extraordinary educator" who is "kind, caring, empathetic, loving, funny, artistic, creative" and "highly effective."
Laurie Smale and Holly Stoneton each spoke briefly. Stoneton told the board she had worked in the district since she was 23 and said she would "not trade it for anything," thanking the Winthrop community for its support. The chair and board members offered thanks and best wishes as part of the meeting's opening recognitions.
