Jay County Development Corp. focuses on housing, childcare and READI 2.0 steering role

Ceann Bales, Ph.D., the new executive director of the Jay County Development Corporation, told commissioners her initial months have focused on building relationships with employers and community leaders and addressing a shortage of housing that local firms reported as they recruit workers. She said county childcare centers are operating at about 30% capacity and that changes at the state level have left some uncertainty about the voucher program. Bales said the JCDC is pursuing a website redesign, updated marketing and a county comprehensive plan through OCRA.
Bales also said the 68A READI 2.0 project cleared a pre-commitment economic impact review and will move into the feasibility phase; she expects a steering committee meeting in early August with Doug Inman serving on the committee. President Aker asked the JCDC to lead tasks such as the RFP for the project; Bales agreed and said the executive committee supported the approach.
