County approves purchase of FordPro vehicle cameras, driveway permit fee and standard for tube installation

Highway Superintendent Robert Howell briefed the commissioners on several operational items and recommended purchasing in-car cameras. Howell said FordPro’s quote for GPS and equipment would be about "$8 less per camera, per month, for their 43 vehicles" compared with a prior vendor and asked the board to approve FordPro. The board approved the purchase; staff estimated an annual cost of about $22,979.77.
Commissioners also discussed an INDOT-proposed detour near Bryant and a bridge replacement scheduled for spring 2027 on Highway 26 east of Highway 27. The board set a written standard that a landowner will pay for any tube and materials while the county installs the tube at no charge. Finally, the department proposed charging $10 for residential driveway permits (in addition to commercial permits) to cover paperwork, inspections and 911-address signage; the board approved the fee and asked the county attorney to draft an ordinance for advertisement with an estimated effective date in August.
