Authority proposes higher residential water minimums, $1.00 per 1,000-gallon excess charge

The Patrick County Public Service Authority published a preliminary water-rate schedule proposing new residential minimums and a per-volume charge for consumption above 2,000 gallons. The schedule lists a 5/8" or 3/4" residential minimum monthly rate of $33.14 and a volume rate of $1.00 per 1,000 gallons for usage in excess of 2,000 gallons, with larger meter minimums set at $58.00 (1") and $99.43 (1½").
The document notes meters are read monthly and that "all customers are charged the minimum monthly base rate plus volume rate for all usage over 2,000 gallons." The Authority states the rates are preliminary and "In accordance with Section 15.2-5136 of the Code of Virginia, rate changes shall be subject to public hearing prior to adoption." If adopted as proposed, the new minimums and volume charge would take effect July 1, 2026. The schedule also lists commercial water rates and a provision that meters larger than 4" will be charged at contract rate.
