Board tables decision on rebidding management of county recycling center

Discussion of the lease with Sedore, Inc. for operation of the Van Buren County Citizen Convenience & Recycling Center resumed on Sept. 8, 2025. Supervisor Meek and County Engineer Ryne Thornburg reported they had visited the facility following the July 28 meeting and said the facility "appeared clean and well-kept both inside and outside." Supervisor Waugh said he had received several phone calls urging the Board to rebid management because the current agreement is perpetual; House said constituents told him Troy Sedore's private-business actions affected their view of the County's use of Sedore, Inc.
On motion by House, seconded by Meek, the Board tabled the discussion until the September 22, 2025 meeting. The tabling vote was recorded Ayes: 2 (Meek, House), Nay: 1 (Waugh). Board members noted the DNR and County Engineer's annual inspections had not identified operational problems but expressed sensitivity to constituent concerns about contractor conduct outside the county contract.
