Supervisors raise concerns about recycling center lease; site review planned

Supervisors discussed the lease with Sedore, Inc., which became effective Sept. 26, 2022 and is perpetual unless modified or terminated. During the July 28 meeting, concerns were raised that certain business practices used to operate the recycling center could jeopardize Van Buren County's license from the Iowa Department of Natural Resources and that an excessive number of vehicles are being parked or stored on the property.
Chairman Mark Meek and County Engineer Ryne Thornburg agreed to inspect the grounds surrounding the Recycle Center. The board considered whether to send a written termination notice to Sedore, Inc., but tabled that consideration to the Aug. 25 meeting to allow for the site review.
