Recorder urges support for proposed recording fee change in 2026 legislative session

County Recorder Lisa Crane reviewed the 2024–2025 Annual Report for Iowa Land Records and discussed a legislative priority the Iowa County Recorders Association plans to pursue during the 2026 session. Crane described a proposed fee-structure change that would allow counties to retain $5.00 of the recording fee for the first page of any recorded document, and an additional $10.00 per page for each subsequent page.
Crane encouraged the supervisors to speak favorably with legislators in support of the proposal and said the county will be asked to approve a new 28E Agreement with Iowa Land Records when it is presented. No dollar revenue estimates for Van Buren County were provided in the minutes.
