Council approves $98,435 purchase of six Dell servers to replace end-of-life systems

"These servers are essential for daily operations, running key town functions and critical public safety programs," Kaplan told the council. Staff recommended procuring six servers configured as a high-availability cluster through Eastern Computer Exchange, an authorized Dell reseller, and noted the budget will cover the purchase with reserves and a fiscal year-end budget amendment. The council approved the purchase and authorized execution of the agreement (5-0).
Why it matters: replacing unsupported hardware reduces downtime risk for public-safety applications and prevents reliance on unsupported software updates; staff said existing UPS systems will continue to provide backup power.
