Van Buren County accepts bids for two Farmington parcels; a third remains county property

The Van Buren County Board of Supervisors held a public hearing July 14 to consider selling three county-owned parcels in Out Lot 40 in the Town of Farmington. Chairman Mark Meek opened the hearing at 9:02 a.m.; no members of the public offered comments and the hearing was closed at 9:05 a.m.
Following the hearing, the board opened sealed bids and accepted offers from Janet Huff of Farmington: $1,300 for Auditor’s Parcel “A” (Parcel #000721235434120 and Parcel #000201235400220) and $350 for Auditor’s Parcel “B” (Parcel #000721235434130). No sealed bid was received for Auditor’s Parcel “C” (Parcel #000721235434140), which will remain county property. The board approved Resolution #07-14-2025A formally accepting the offers; roll call was Meek — Aye; Waugh — Aye; House — Aye.
The resolution and the staff materials list the parcels’ legal descriptions and acreage: Parcel A — approximately 1.66 acres (including 0.37 acres of county road easement); Parcel B — approximately 0.48 acres (including 0.17 acres of road easement); and Parcel C — approximately 0.94 acres (including 0.35 acres of road easement). County Engineer Ryne Thornburg later suggested the board consider removing logs from Parcel C now that it will remain under county ownership; the board gave consensus that Thornburg should examine the possibility.
The sale proceedings were conducted under Iowa Code Section 331.361 and the published hearing notice (Van Buren County Register, June 26, 2025). Closing logistics, deed processing and any required easement paperwork were not specified in the minutes and will proceed per standard county procedures.
