Superintendent reports 5.4% proposed spending increase, temporary April spending freeze; local foundation grants $4,000

"I will be attending the town council meeting this coming Monday, April 6, that advocate for the proposed 5.4% budget increase in expenditures, which the board unanimously supported," Dr. Foley said. She added that while necessary expenditures will continue, the district has frozen nonessential spending for April to allow better assessment of year-end projections.
Dr. Foley also said the Winthrop Education Corporation recently funded $4,000 in grants to teachers and staff for the spring, an amount she thanked the foundation for supporting. Residents at public comment urged the board to consider potential revenue increases — including an increase in general purpose aid mentioned by a commenter — when framing the tax impact of spending changes.
Board members asked about adult-education funding and co-op arrangements with nearby districts; the superintendent said the district would continue to work with town officials as the budget process continues.
