The Winthrop School Board voted unanimously to approve the 2026–2027 school operating budget (excluding nutrition and adult education) in the amount of $15,497,070 and authorized the superintendent to present the budget to the town council. Chair read the motion and the board approved it following discussion about enrollment and fiscal constraints.
Superintendent Dr. Foley reviewed the budgeting options: without adding a requested teacher the district would arrive at a 5.4% increase in expenditures; if the board adds another teacher the total increase would rise to 6.07%. Dr. Foley said he did not expect the town council to support the higher figure based on conversations with the town manager and director of finance. The motion passed unanimously.
