Board hears staff on K'12 alignment, MTSS and 9th-grade on-track strategies

Superintendent (speaker 2) and instructional staff presented how the district is aligning instruction across elementary, middle and high school using the Continuous Improvement Plan, MTSS interventions and periodic PLC work to ensure priority standards are vertically and horizontally aligned.
"We're using STAR assessments to pull kids out for reading and math interventions," the superintendent said, describing progress monitoring tools and the district's use of Freckle as an intervention platform tied to STAR results. He explained the district's target of a 50 student-growth percentile (SGP) as a year's worth of growth and a broader goal of reaching 70% proficiency across students over five years.
Board members questioned how strategies connect from 5th grade into middle school and into high school. Administration described a four-week plan of PLC meetings where middle- and high-school teams will meet with elementary counterparts to define priority standards, identify gaps and coordinate interventions. The board requested additional score breakdowns for classes identified as not making expected growth and asked for reports on coaching and classroom-level supports for struggling cohorts.
