After recessing to executive session to review the superintendent's evaluation, the Vernonia School District 47J Board returned to open session and voted to give Board Chair Greg Kintz authority to speak on behalf of the board with Superintendent Helmen to direct separation of the Special Education Director and Superintendent positions for budgeting purposes. Alicia Mahoney moved to give Greg Kintz that authority; Lisa Curry seconded, and the motion passed unanimously with those in attendance.
The motion authorizes the chair and superintendent to pursue a staffing/budgeting approach that treats the Special Education Director position distinctly from the superintendent role for budget planning. The minutes do not disclose details of the superintendent's evaluation discussed in executive session; the board recessed under ORS 192.660(2)(i) for that closed review.
