Staff members urge additional listening session and question staffing cuts

Staff member Brett Costley asked the board to schedule a second listening session on the night of conferences so staff would have another opportunity to speak to leadership; he also referenced an earlier meeting where he said there had been an expectation no action would occur after an executive session. Licensed staff member Juliet Safier described burdens created by recent staffing cuts, urged the budget committee to consider those impacts, and asked that the college-and-career-readiness position be posted as a certified role rather than classified.
The board did not take action during public comment; Superintendent Jim Helmen said the budget process and committee review are ongoing and that administrators will provide relevant documents, including a workforce survey, to the board when ready.
