Board approves licensed and administrative contract extensions; one trustee abstains

Following a closed executive session to review personnel evaluations, the Vernonia School District 47J Board of Directors approved licensed-staff extension resolution #2026-03 and administrative contract extension resolution #2026-04 on March 12. The contract-extension motion was made by Joanie Jones and seconded by Lisa Curry. Trustee Alicia Mahoney abstained from the vote; all other members present voted in favor.
The board also approved the 2025-26 annual evaluation of Superintendent Jim Helmen on a unanimous vote after returning to open session. The board recessed to executive session at 8:37 p.m. under O.R.S. 192.660(2)(i) to review the superintendent's evaluation and returned at 9:17 p.m. to take action.
The minutes record no reason for Mahoney's abstention. The district filed the resolutions as part of regular personnel actions and will proceed with implementation according to the contracts' terms.
