Commissioners approve nearly $3M remodel for Main Courthouse annex in two phases

Andrew Dilts presented a Capital Improvement Program amendment to remodel the Main Courthouse annex and asked the board to approve a two‑phase approach that allows immediate work on the first floor while preserving time to complete the annex remodel.
"Our total for the remodel, which includes a new entrance constructed outside of the annex, is just shy of $3,000,000 phased over 2 years," Dilts said. Phase 1 would remodel the first floor to house the sheriff ORU temporarily moved from other leased space; phase 2 would convert the second floor to accommodate pretrial services, drug court and veterans treatment court. Funding will come from an interfund transfer of general fund cash to the CIP fund, and staff will pursue grant reimbursement opportunities where eligible.
The board moved and unanimously approved the CIP amendment and adopted the resolution to proceed.
Why it matters: The remodel aims to consolidate county services into owned facilities as leases expire and to improve court and justice system throughput by colocating related programs.
What's next: Facilities and finance will coordinate project scheduling and funding transfers to implement phase 1 immediately and phase 2 in a later fiscal year.
