Prospective buyer outlines daycare, activity center and housing ideas for Wanamingo school

At the meeting, a prospective buyer identified himself as Ollie Olsen and described potential reuse options for the Wanamingo Elementary building that emphasize local services and modest housing.
"It's prime for for child day care," Olsen said while outlining uses that would include restored library space, gym and courts for recreation, adult day services and the possibility of studio apartments for traveling medical workers. Olsen said he is a recent retiree with 44 years in construction-related sales and that he has discussed ideas with local contacts and some members of the community.
Olsen listed two conditions for moving forward: working closely with the school board and keeping the project community-focused. He said he was not a large corporation but an individual owner/operator who wanted to avoid nonlocal buyers radically changing the building’s role. He also noted that in his initial due diligence he saw opportunities for child care, adult care and community programming.
His remarks came during the public portion before the board moved into a closed session to discuss offers. Olsen asked whether board members had questions and thanked the board for allowing him to speak.
