The Solano County Board of Supervisors unanimously adopted a resolution recognizing February 2025 as Black History Month and presented a proclamation to the Solano-Napa chapter of Black Women Organized for Political Action (BWOPA).
Supervisor Wanda Williams read the resolution to the board and visitors, saying, “The resolution of Solano County Board of Supervisors recognizes February 2025 as a month long celebration of Black History Month in Solano County.” The Board approved the item by a 5-0 vote. Williams introduced members of the BWOPA chapter and said the group has worked locally on voter outreach and community service.
Latrice Wilson Alford, identified in the meeting as the chapter president, told the board the chapter combines political engagement with community service. “Don't be fooled by the name we're called political action, but actually, we are more than just political action,” she said, describing the chapter's voter bus, postcard-writing and get-out-the-vote work across Solano and Napa counties.
The recognition followed brief remarks from county supervisors acknowledging the chapter's local activities and a photo opportunity at the dais. The proclamation was signed by the board chair and placed on the public record. No formal policy change or funding decision accompanied the proclamation.
