Council approves cut to water plant design from 3 MGD to 2 MGD, sets hearing

City consultants told council the originally proposed 3 million-gallon-per-day water treatment plant was determined by state reviewers to be excessive, and a 2 million-gallon-per-day design was recommended.
Catherine Schmitz explained the state review and recommended capacity reduction; the council voted 6-0 to approve changing the design capacity from 3 to 2 MGD so the design can be finalized. Council also voted 6-0 to schedule a Dec. 8, 2025 public hearing at 6:00 p.m. to review Water Treatment Plant upgrade plans and design details.
