Councilmember Weinberg proposes removing local caps on certain liquor licenses

Councilmember Craig Weinberg introduced Ordinance 855 on Oct. 13 proposing changes to the city's alcoholic beverage licensing limits.
Weinberg said Section 111.061 currently limits the number of on-off sale malt beverage/on-off South Dakota farm wine licenses to five, while the state imposes no such limit. He asked that the city remove that limit and also remove the city's cap on off-sale package liquor licenses so city licensing mirrors state regulation. Attorney Mark Reedstrom was asked to draft an ordinance incorporating those changes for first reading at the November council meeting.
