Water plant outage and exposed wastewater pipe traced to brush clearing, operator says

City Operator Bobby Archer told the Westfir City Council on April 7 that the city's water plant lost power after a transformer blew; Lane Electric repaired the transformer and water service was not disrupted because the water tank was mostly full.
Mr. Archer also reported he had repaired a broken pipe at the wastewater plant. When City Recorder Nicole Tritten asked if the break was caused by recent brush clearing, Mr. Archer confirmed the work had exposed a pipe that had been buried under "6–8 feet of blackberry bushes," and he said he planned to cover the pipe to protect it from future damage.
The water outage did not interrupt service to customers according to the operator's report; the minutes note the city's maintenance response and planned protective measures to prevent recurrence.
