Chatham County honors CEMA leader Chelsea Sawyer as she joins American Red Cross

Chairman Chester A. Ellis described Sawyer's leadership during local emergencies and praised her public-service record. Sawyer told the commission it was a "really humbling experience" to be honored and said she looked forward to continuing to serve the region in her new role. "I've poured my heart and soul," she said, describing her time with CEMA and the opportunity to impact an 18-county region with the Red Cross.
Commissioners and staff individually thanked Sawyer and shared personal remarks about her work with hurricanes, tornado responses and other community events.
