Commission honors students, police personnel and marks Dark Sky Month

The North Bay Village Commission used the presentations portion of its meeting to recognize community and public‑safety contributions. Two Miami Beach Senior High students who organized recurring cleanups of the Island Walk were presented certificates and $250 awards each for their volunteer efforts. Commissioners encouraged more neighborhood cleanups and thanked the students for engaging neighbors.
The commission also issued a proclamation to Peter and Dana Catalano and the Miami Beach K9 Knights for donations that expanded the police canine unit, and the police chief presented the 2024 Civilian of the Year (communications operator Jennifer Nunez) and Officer of the Year (Sergeant Abel ‘AJ’). Mayor Rachel Streitfeld read a proclamation declaring April 2025 as Dark Sky Month and highlighted weekly dark‑sky yoga events initiated by the Sustainability and Resilience Task Force.
Speakers praised volunteerism and the police department’s service; commissioners encouraged attendance at upcoming community events that tie into environmental and public‑safety goals.
