Melanie Nees explained the district's budget calendar: administrative budget development begins in December, the Oregon Department of Education issues a March estimate that informs the proposed document, the budget committee reviews the proposed budget (noted meeting: Monday, May 4) and the school board must adopt a balanced budget by July 1.
Nees described the proposed budget document as "a snapshot at a point in time when ODE said this is the funding that they're going to give us." She warned the committee that those estimates can change and that the administration will revise the proposed document if state estimates are adjusted before board adoption.
Committee members were asked to review the binder and the proposed document in advance and bring clarifying questions to the public May meeting so the committee can approve a proposed budget for the board to adopt in July.
